Medical Director

LAWRENCE SANDERS, MD is Medical Director/Chief Medical Officer of HEAL Inc. He is the Medical Director of the Grady Health System where he he serves as the physician advisor for clinical documentation improvement, care management and hospital throughput. He practices internal medicine and believes that good health is the result of individuals, groups, organizations, neighborhoods and communities working to create the conditions in every neighborhood and community to foster good health.

He is a past president of the National Medical Association (NMA), the Atlanta Medical Association and the Georgia State Medical Associations and has been a member of the steering committee for the Group on Faculty Practice of the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). Dr. Sanders remains active in professional associations and believes that advocacy provides input to the political processes that share the future of medicine.

Dr. Sanders is ABMS Board Certified in Internal Medicine and teaches internal medicine, business principles and patient safety/quality improvement to residents and medical students as an Associate Professor at Morehouse School of Medicine.

He earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Clemson University.  He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University Medical School in Nashville, Tennessee, and earned a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Among his many honors, he has been recognized by the Presidential Award (Atlanta Medical Association); Commending the Georgia Task Force on AIDS (State of Georgia House of Representatives); Atlanta Top Doctors; and Outstanding Service Award (Georgia State Medical Association, where he served as President and Chair. He served as President of the National Medical Association.
