SUMMARY:Philadelphia\,PA: Healing Renal Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Mt. Airy COGIC invites you to join us for a special 2-day program on Critical Kidney Disease (CKD) as we address kidney failure and how it impacts the Black community. You will learn about CKD risk factors\, screening\, treatment options and critical information concerning The Kidney PATIENT Act. \nYou will have the opportunity to hear from and ask questions to several medical experts\, community leaders and patients and walk away knowing how to better advocate for your health\, diagnosis or a loved one. This is a free community event that’s open to all. \nWe’d like to extend a special thank you to our community partner\, HEAL Collaborative. \nRegister now and share this with a loved one. We don’t want you to miss out! (Space is limited) \nAfrican Americans and CKD \nWhile Blacks make up about 13% of the population\, they account for 35% of the people with kidney failure\, or end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and 33% of those on dialysis in the United States. \nAccording to the CDC\, 20% of the non-Hispanic Black population has CKD versus only 14% of non-Hispanic white adults. Poorly managed CKD often progresses to kidney failure\, requiring individuals to undergo dialysis a few times weekly to stay alive. \nDialysis \nDialysis is a life-changing medical treatment\, often consuming 10-12 hours per week at the dialysis clinic. Clearly\, it is important to do everything possible to help CKD patients manage the enormous burden and challenges associated with dialysis. \nMost individuals with CKD on dialysis depend upon the Medicare program to provide dialysis services and needed medications. \nDue to the significant impact of CKD on the Black community\, we are concerned about an upcoming policy change advanced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that will severely limit access to certain medications. We are educating and bringing awareness to the black community about CKD and this impending policy. \nLearn More About The Kidney PATIENT Act \nCMS changes to Medicare that will negatively impact patients who are on dialysis. People with kidney failure are prone to high levels of phosphate in their blood. Certain medications help to control and reduce the absorption of phosphate from the diet. New Medicare changes will deprive dialysis patients access to life-saving medications and increase costs for dialysis treatments. \nThe Kidney PATIENT Act 2023 | H.R. 5074 \n*Registration is required with limited availability \nMonday\, December 9 \nTIME: 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM EST \nLunch is included \nMonday\, December 16 \nTIME: 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM EST \nLunch is included

SUMMARY:Milwaukee\, WI: Protect Health Equity in Kidney Care
DESCRIPTION:Calvary District invites you to join us for a special 2-day program on Critical Kidney Disease (CKD) as we address kidney failure and how it impact the Black community. You will learn about CKD risk factors\, screening\, treatment options and critical information concerning The Kidney PATIENT Act. \nYou will have the opportunity to hear from and ask questions to several medical experts\, community leaders and patients and walk away knowing how to better advocate for your health\, diagnosis or for a loved one. This is a free community event that’s open to all. \nWe’d like to extend a special thank you to our community partner\, HEAL Collaborative. \nRegister now and share this will a loved one. We don’t want you to miss out! (Space is limited) \nAfrican Americans and CKD \nWhile Blacks make up about 13% of the population\, they account for 35% of the people with kidney failure\, or end stage renal disease (ESRD) and 33% of those on dialysis in the United States. \nAccording to the CDC\, 20% of the non-Hispanic Black population has CKD versus only 14% of non-Hispanic white adults. Poorly managed CKD often progresses to kidney failure\, requiring individuals to undergo dialysis a few times weekly to stay alive. \nDialysis \nDialysis is a life changing medical treatment\, often consuming 10-12 hours per week at the dialysis clinic. 5074 \n*Registration is required with limited availability \nFriday\, July 19 \nTIME: 5:00 PM- 7:15 PM CT \n*Dinner will be served. Calvary District worship service to follow. \nSaturday\, July 20 \nTIME: 10:00 AM- 12:30 PM CT \n*Continental breakfast served at 9:30 AM \n*Lunch served at the close of the program.

SUMMARY:Protect Health Equity in Kidney Care
DESCRIPTION:Hear from kidney experts about CMS changes to Medicare that will negatively impact patients who are on dialysis. 5074 \nLocation: \nCornerstone Community Baptist Church \n4895 Campbellton Rd SW\, Atlanta\, GA 30331 \nDATE: December 14 & 16\, 2023 \nTIME: 10:00 AM- 12:30 PM EST \nSponsors: \nArdelyx \nHEAL Collaborative

SUMMARY:Kentucky Lung Cancer Program: Screening\, Early Detection\, Health Disparities and Biomarker Testing
DESCRIPTION:Participants will learn about lung cancer incidence\, prevention\, early detection\, screening eligibility\, and the benefits of screening. The United States Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) lung cancer screening guidelines will be introduced.  Physicians and other healthcare professionals will discuss patient support\, reducing barriers to screening\, and other resources to help with insurance coverage and costs. \nLow-dose CT is a powerful tool that leads to increased detection of cancers at an earlier\, more treatable stage\, making it imperative that lung cancer screening with this imaging technique be provided to African American patients who so greatly need it and benefit from it. \nParticipants will learn about how physicians utilize biomarker testing to optimize treatment decisions that are improving lung cancer survival through precision medicine. Precision medicine is a model that allows physicians to personalize treatment decisions for each person diagnosed with lung cancer. The personalized approach involves your primary care physician\, surgeon\, and oncologist working together to identify the best treatment that will more effectively target your specific type of lung cancer. Healthcare professionals will discuss how to improve access to biomarker testing and precision medicine in communities of color. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \nTo understand the causes of lung cancer. \nTo recognize the risk factors of lung cancer. \nTo understand why health disparities exist in lung cancer detection and screening. \nTo understand why screening is beneficial to detecting lung cancer early. \nTo understand what the process for screening looks like from the patient’s perspective. \nTo understand how immunotherapy\, targeted therapies\, minimally invasive surgery\, and are improving lung cancer survival and quality of life
